Children’s Partial Hospitalization Program: Why Choose Us?
The Horsham Clinic is one of the few programs in the Philadelphia area treating children as young as 5. Programming includes individual, group and family sessions that restore emotional well-being and lay the foundation for a bright future. Staff use gentle, sensitive methods that allow children to maintain their dignity even during challenging times.
Highlights of our program include:
- Dedicated staff: Your child receives PHP mental health services from attentive providers specializing in the mental health needs of children. Many staff have been with The Horsham Clinic for decades. This depth of experience enables them to connect with children and get to the source of what’s bothering them.
- Early intervention: Research shows that children who experience mental health issues achieve better outcomes with timely treatment. Our PHP addresses your child’s symptoms while helping them build skills and confidence to navigate future challenges. In fact, after completing our program, many patients don’t need this level of intense treatment again.
- Seamless experience: Some children step down to PHP after completing The Horsham Clinic’s inpatient psychiatric program. Providers work together to facilitate smooth transitions between care settings. This approach makes it easier for your child to focus on achieving their goals.
- Closer to home: Our child PHP mental health services are available in three locations. In addition to The Horsham Clinic’s main campus in Ambler, children’s programming is also available in Chester County and Delaware County. These additional locations make it easier to fit care into your family’s busy schedule.
PHP Mental Health Services for Children: What to Expect
Our structured treatment program for children goes from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday through Friday. We host groups for children ages 5 to 10 and 11 to 12, so your child receives services appropriate for their stage of development. An on-site child psychiatrist oversees the program and is available for consultation when necessary.
If our children’s partial hospitalization program is right for your child, here’s what to expect:
- Multispecialty evaluation: We start getting to know your child and their needs. A child psychiatrist, nursing staff and therapists perform these assessments shortly after your child completes the admissions process. Staff meet regularly during your child’s treatment to coordinate services and make adjustments based on your child’s response to therapy.
- Medication-assisted therapy: If your child might benefit from medications, such as antidepressants, we explain which ones can help and how they work. This is an optional treatment and may only be necessary temporarily.
- Group therapy and other services: Children participate in group sessions throughout the day. We offer a broad range of topics, including bullying and how to talk about your feelings. Offerings include recreational therapies involving poetry, movement and crafts. Participants also complete schoolwork and receive one hour of tutoring daily.
- Focus on family: At The Horsham Clinic, the people who are important to your child participate in their care. We work closely with family members, caregivers and loved ones to explain treatment goals and progress. This open communication lets you know what to expect and how you can help your child between sessions.
- Discharge planning: The Horsham Clinic collaborates with other organizations to coordinate ongoing treatment. Whether it’s your child’s pediatrician, school or another program, we share important details that enable your child to continue thriving after discharge.
Services for Adolescents
The Horsham Clinic offers specialized programming for children older than 12. We have a PHP mental health program dedicated to the needs of adolescents between 13 and 18. Staff have in-depth knowledge of the challenges facing young adults and tailor therapies to meet them. Explore our partial hospitalization program (PHP) for teens.
